No Limits Grappling Academy (NLGA) is the premier destination for No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu training in Scranton. Our approach combines Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), wrestling, and judo to create a dynamic and effective training environment.
We believe that real growth happens just outside your comfort zone. Whether you’re a former athlete looking to reignite your competitive fire, someone seeking a new and challenging training routine, or simply looking for a strong community, NLGA is the place for you. We don’t just teach techniques. We help you build resilience, discipline, and an elite mindset.
Our Training Philosophy
A Supportive Yet Challenging Environment
Jiu-Jitsu can feel intimidating when you first start, but we make sure it’s not. Our gym is ego-free, and everyone, no matter their experience level, is treated with respect. If you're willing to learn and put in the work, you belong here.
More Than Just a Hobby
Some gyms separate their members into competitors and hobbyists. We don’t. Whether you ever step into a competition or not, you’re an athlete in our eyes. Grappling isn’t just something you casually pick up and put down. It’s a path to personal growth, discipline, and hard work. Our Non-Tournament Athletes (NTAs) train just as hard as competitors, pushing each other to improve every day.
SilverbackStyle: A Commitment to Excellence
We hold ourselves to a high standard because we know that’s what it takes to get better. SilverbackStyle means:
- Training with intention and focus, whether in practice or competition.
- Developing habits that translate to success in both Jiu-Jitsu and life.
- Pushing through discomfort and embracing challenges.
- Respecting the gym, the coaches, and your teammates.
- Putting in maximum effort every day to create an elite training environment.
Meet Head Coach Matt Marcinek
A Coach Who Defies Limits
Matt Marcinek didn't get into grappling because it was easy. He got into it because it wasn't.
Born with cerebral palsy, Matt spent the first decade of his competitive career losing — over 80 matches before a win. Most people would have quit. He stayed. Not because he loved losing, but because he understood something most athletes don't: the process of getting beat is where the real work happens.
That obsession with the long game is what built No Limits Grappling Academy.
Matt brings 20+ years of grappling experience across Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, and Judo — holding a Brown Belt in BJJ and a Black Belt in Judo. He holds a master's degree in school and educational counseling psychology with an emphasis in positive coaching from the University of Missouri and is a Certified Mental Performance Mastery Coach. He doesn't just teach technique. He develops athletes — mentally and physically.
The coaches who shaped you weren't the ones who made it easy. They were the ones who held the standard, pushed you past what you thought you were capable of, and gave a damn about who you became in the process.
That's the standard at NLGA.
If you're a former athlete looking for a place that trains the way you used to compete — structured, serious, fun and built around real development — this is it.
